Why Three Separate Levels?

A Reiki course is not like other weekend workshops that may or may not be ultimately useful, and that may be forgotten over time. After a Reiki course, the power of the Reiki attunements is with you for life — and perhaps may even be accessible to you in future lives!

Reiki is an investment in your spiritual nature, and is an awakening to view the world through the eyes of compassion.

Even though Reiki energy is totally harmless and only ever beneficial, receiving attunements (empowerments) causes permanent alterations to one's energetic system. For this reason, it is not recommended to be attuned to more than one level of Reiki at one time (a practice that has unfortunately become fashionable with a few Western Reiki Masters). This defeats the purpose of Reiki and can merely become another trap of the ego-nature, which will always seek the quickest path by any means.

Within each of the three Reiki courses (the traditional levels) that I teach, innovative information is included on the structure of the human energetic field (the chakra points as they relate to each of the subtle vibrational bodies or 'sheaths' [kosha in Sanskrit] of consciousness) and its relationship to our spiritual nature, so that a deeper understanding of the lessons that may be triggered by each level of Reiki can be understood consciously, and worked through purposefully.

There are three main considerations
in moving through the Reiki Levels slowly:

• Using the Reiki energy purposefully over time actually gently increases one's capacity to channel this energy powerfully for the benefit of others. As each subsequent empowerment amplifies one's existing capacity, this gradual path will also ensure that each new level of attunement will be vastly (and safely for oneself) more potent than the last. This means that without sufficient time spent between the attunements of the various levels, the potential power (not quality!) of each level will be diminished. In any case, the advanced levels of Reiki are not obligatory after the Level One Reiki empowerment, but are simply a matter of personal preference and degree of commitment.
• A second consideration in progressing more slowly through the levels of Reiki is that the physical body (especially the nervous system) always needs time to adjust to the higher frequency of energy entering the meridian system. Permanently and dramatically raising the energy in one's Crown chakra, and hence consciousness, too rapidly may cause problems within the nervous system itself, and in severe cases may even result in deluded states of mind.
• A third consideration for slow and steady progress through the three degrees of Reiki is that with each new level one's subtle mind becomes strengthened. This is because the capacity of the mind to function through the Third-eye (Ajna) chakra increases with Reiki attunements. In other words, the mind becomes magnetically powerful. If we have not retrained our subconscious thought-patterns (especially before being attuned to Levels 2 and 3 of Reiki), they may be amplified, producing undesirable results in our outer world. This is precisely how our own karmic influences are manufactured and maintained.
  This means that the reality we are constantly creating for ourselves must be monitored through serious meditative and contemplative practices. The subconscious mind-stream may be filled with thought-forms that have been hidden for centuries — concepts and ideas that have shaped our experiences and often sabotaged our efforts to heal ourselves, or others. These thought-forms will become quickly evident through the experiences we attract to ourselves after becoming a Reiki channel. Of course, this has fabulous implications for the altruistic healer who is working with compassion and genuine wisdom.

To put all of this into a traditional Buddhist context, there is a reason why Tantra is referred to as the 'Quick Path': When we step onto the Tantric Path, our spiritual development is accelerated through the many obstacles we attract so as to finally get ourselves (i.e. our 'ego'-selves) out of our own way! This tests our fortitude and our commitment, and certainly advances our awareness more quickly than any other method, but can also be hazardous if we have any residue of ego-attachments. Therefore, it is best to be gentle with ourselves and not take on too much too soon. One's life certainly does 'change' once one has received an authentic Reiki Empowerment.

The three distinct levels of the Reiki empowerments, or Reiju, (being Shoden, Okuden, and Shinpiden) had been purposefully designed by Mikao Usui to safely build one's capacity in gentle stages. He was divinely guided in the restoration and proliferation of these teachings in Japan. Meditation practices are also of great benefit in maintaining our spiritual integrity and identity as we work with the Reiki energy over time. We now know that the Reiki training in Japan, offered by Usui, actually did involve Buddhist meditation practices. Also, meditative concentration and insight are integral parts, being indeed the essence, of any Buddhist study or program.... And, finally, as we allow ourselves to progress with sure footing, we are reminded that Patience and Humility are essential virtues on the Spiritual Path.

Information for All Kerrie's Reiki Courses

Your Teacher/Sensei

Kerrie has been a Reiki practitioner for 24 years (from July 1986) and a Reiki Master (sensei) for thirteen years (from January 1997). She has made a serious study of Buddhist philosophy since 1991 (though was fascinated by the Buddha as a child), and became an official Tibetan Buddhist in 1996 by taking Refuge and other Buddhist vows during an initiation by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, after which she studied principally with Lama Choedak Rinpoche in Sydney and then Canberra, from 1997, as well as attending teachings and receiving Buddhist empowerments from many highly accomplished Tibetan Rinpoches.

35 years ago, Kerrie began her personal studies in the Japanese Macrobiotic philosophy of healing, which led her naturally to become absorbed in many aspects of Japanese culture. It is now acknowledged that Reiki had originally developed principally from Japanese cultural and Buddhist roots: both being Kerrie's earlier studies!...Rather than 'full-circle', all energy, including our consciousness (and indeed life!), moves in spirals!

General Information

Comprehensive printed notes are provided in a bound folder for each Reiki course (see Topics in Level One Course Notes and Topics in Level Two Course Notes, below). Also, the Level Three Reiki Course includes a bound folder of all of the updated Notes from all three Reiki courses. Also, an official practitioner's certificate will be presented to participants at the end of each course.

All Reiki Courses are available on request, from private tuition classes to a maximum of 7 new students per regular class. All areas in Australia are considered. The class enrolments are limited in number for personal attention, and also to allow a greater amount of time for instruction (rather than for the multitude of individual attunements required for large numbers of students).

A limited number of Kerrie's previous Reiki students of the same level or higher may also re-attend, at no cost. Also, other previously professionally attuned practitioners may negotiate a fee for attending Kerrie's courses and receiving re-attunements or attunement boosters (Reiju) plus all course material.

Level One Reiki Course

No experience with any healing modalities is required
for this Level One Course, which is open to all individuals
for both personal and professional use

This level, as the foundation for all of the Reiki courses, permanently opens the practitioner to receive the clearest quality of Spiritual Light (Life Force Energy/Consciousness) available to us in the Universe. It balances the Root or 'Secret Place' chakra (Muladhara-cakra) and Crown or 'great bliss' chakra (Sahasrara-cakra/mahasukha-cakra as Crown and Third-Eye together) safely to allow a higher current of 'Heaven's Force' to enter the Crown and be distributed via the Heart or Dharma-cakra (Anahata-chakra). All of the other chakras are aligned in this process. The hands are also attuned to allow the transmission of this healing energy to others, and its redirection back into the self for treating our own disease states (of mind and body).

Reiki activation is usually experienced physically as warmth emanating from the palms of the hands during contact, but this is not thermal energy. One could possibly say it is a quantum 'field' effect.

This Reiki attunement also has the effect of enlivening our compassion (for self and others) as it directly stimulates our Heart-wisdom. This gives us a glimpse of our inherent Buddha-nature — which all beings are, in essence.

Through receiving this empowerment we are making a commitment to become an instrument for Higher Beings in Spirit (Transcendent Bodhisattvas) who will manifest their healing and enlightening qualities through our energetic system. In the Level One Reiki course, we will focus more on the Medicine Buddha connections with Reiki as a spiritual healing system, touching also on the other Deities traditionally involved; and in Level Two we will go into more detail on these Deities who manifest through the Reiki symbols (as mantras, and mudras) given in Level Two.

In the Buddhist tradition, these deities are deliberately identified and invoked. However, it is not necessarily their form that is vital to our acceptance of the Reiki energy, but their inherent spiritual qualities which can be recognised in the deities of all of the world's great religions.

Level Two Reiki Course

Time and practice spent at Level One Reiki
is a prerequisite for this Level Two Course

At this level, one's capacity to channel the Reiki energy is greatly increased, and one is given the added responsibility of the use of several of the attunement symbols.

Students are taught three of the four Reiki symbols (seed syllables, and invocations of Japanese Buddhist origin) used in the attunement processes. These symbols basically range from being representative forms of simple mantras to dharanis that can be used to amplify healing processes, and to sustain protection at emotional/mental levels, as well as to facilitate the transmission of this highest level of healing over distances with an instant total auric connection to anyone anywhere.

The Third Eye chakra (Ajna-cakra) is lightly stimulated during the attunement process to increase one's capacity for visualisation practices involving the use of the Reiki symbols.

The moral issues and dilemmas of spiritual-healing 'etiquette' are also discussed during this course. This level relates to the Mahayana Buddhist principle of developing oneself for the purpose of benefiting others. It opens one to the ideal of the Bodhisattva Path, involving the 'Six Perfections' (Paramitas), which are discussed during this course.

Level Two Course Structure, Fee & Discounts

Level Three Reiki Course

A minimum of several years' practice at Level Two Reiki,
plus a previous commitment to meditation practice,
is a prerequisite for this Level Three Course

This level becomes available for Level Two Reiki students who are on a committed spiritual path. It allows them to access the 4th Reiki symbol (invocation), and to perform Level One and Two Boosters (Reiju) to temporarily increase the pre-existing healing capacities of other individuals. This is not the Reiki Master-Teacher level but the third Reiki Practitioner level.

This Level Three attunement has a powerful effect on both 'petals' of the 'Third Eye' chakra (Ajna-cakra) (from where we outwardly manifest our inner reality and wisdom), which is why a prerequisite for this empowerment is a controlled and focused mind through a previous commitment to meditation practices. One's personal Solar Plexus (Manipura-cakra) challenges (of the emotional nature) also need to be addressed consciously before this Level is attempted.

While Reiki Level Three offers a tremendous boost to our capacity to advance the healing of self and others, especially through our altruistic intent, this empowerment may also greatly accelerate the karmic results brought about by our (present or past, positive or negative) actions of Body, Speech, and Mind.

This is an opportunity reflected in the Tibetan Buddhist prayer: 'May all our thoughts come true instantaneously, whether inner, outer, or secret.'

Level Three Course Structure, Fee & Discounts

• Reiki Three Practitioner Course (this is not the Master-Teacher level) consists of 3 full days (10 am to 5 pm), of tuition, empowerments, and practice, including daily two 15-minute tea breaks and an hour for lunch
• Fee AU$900* (Deposit: AU$300 non-refundable but transferable with reasonable notice)
• AU$100* discount applies for any of Kerrie's former Astrology students who have completed at least the 1st year of her Astrology course
