1986: Kerrie Redgate was attuned to Reiki Level One in July 1986 in Sydney and then to Reiki Level Two in August 1986, just six weeks later (at Kerrie's request, so that she and her visiting Danish friend could do the Level Two course together before her friend's departure). This was through Reiki Master Gary Samer (pictured right) in what later became known as The Radiance Technique. Kerrie was also fortunate in being able to sit-in on a number of Gary Samer's Level One and Two courses over the following years.
1996: An extraordinary year for Kerrie, experiencing the Neptune aspect of her "Midlife Liberation" (as she calls it!) Six weeks between Reiki One and Two in 1986 had been perhaps a little close together, but Kerrie then waited ten years to be attuned to Level Three Reiki, also via Gary Samer, in 1996. So there was plenty of time to develop with the energy and increase its efficacy.
After her Third Level Empowerment, it had become obvious to Kerrie that Reiki had Buddhist roots, as the symbol given during that initiation was recognisable from the Zen Buddhist tradition, with which Kerrie was familiar at the time.
We now have verifiable evidence for these Buddhist roots through the diligent investigations of Reiki teachers such as Frank Arjava Petter and Bronwen & Frans Stiene.
Also in 1996, Kerrie took her Lay Buddhist and Bodhisattva vows in the Tibetan tradition through His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at the Kalacakra Initiation in Sydney, just weeks after her Third Level Reiki Empowerment.
This nine-day Tibetan Buddhist rite, shared by several thousand people, was an astounding event that cemented Kerrie's resolve to accomplish the Buddhist practices for the benefit of her clients, students, and eventually readers. This commitment has strengthened Kerrie's relationship to Reiki.
1997: Kerrie was then attuned to the Reiki Master/Teacher/Sensei level on January 3 1997, through friend and Reiki Master Poonam Uppal (now in Singapore).
This was somewhat of a surprise move for Kerrie, herself!, but is actually indicated in her birth-chart as a part of her life-path. The Master level also increased the healing potential for Kerrie quite dramatically, and has been highy useful for others as well as for her own healing from time to time. This empowerment also significantly boosted the effect of her work with flower essences where the Reiki blessings and symbols are used to enhance the healing power of flower essence formulas that Kerrie dispenses.
Kerrie then received the Medicine Buddha Empowerment for the first time, from His Holiness Sakya Trizin (pictured right), the head of the Sakya Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, in early 1997 (a special gift/Karmic Agreement from a friend/student), not long after her Reiki Master Empowerment. This was no coincidence as Medicine Buddha is a major part of any healing practice in the Buddhist tradition.
2002: Since that time, Kerrie has received, and continues to work with, a number of other Buddhist empowerments and sadhanas, and has formerly renewed all her vows on two other occasions. The second was in a formal initiation in December 2002 with Lama Choedak Rinpoche
(pictured left), who had then given Kerrie the Tibetan Dharma name, Changchub Dolma (pronounced "jung-joop" as in "look"; in Sanksrit the name would be Bodhitara - see astrological Note below). Kerrie has studied with Lama Choedak Rinpoche in both Sydney and Canberra since 1997.
Kerrie Redgate is passionate about the Buddhist roots of Reiki
being preserved and disseminated. In Japan, many religious and spiritual beliefs tend to overlap and become amalgamated. And so there are also some Shinto and Shugendo influences (as Usui was also a martial arts practitioner) in the Reiki system, as Reiki was initially intended to be a system of spiritual development.
In her Reiki courses, Kerrie Redgate teaches Buddhist philosophy as appropriate, and works with the spiritual emphasis of the system.
