Reiki and the Medicine Buddha Mystery

Medicine Buddha

“Are Tibetan Buddhist Deities real?”

Try asking Tibetan Lamas about this and you will receive two entirely different answers: “Yes” and “No”. In fact, sometimes you will receive both of these answers from the same Lama!

Which is right? Are they both right?

Of course, they are both right. Tibetan Lamas tend to be enormously intelligent and fabulously inspiring. Some can twist our minds into pretzal knots until we let go of our conceptual reality of how things have to be.

From my own experience, there is no doubt whatsoever that Buddhist Deities exist as “Conscious Enlightened Beings”. They are also the inherent potential of our own mind-qualities. Each of us has a Medicine Buddha inside us. Each of us has skills in healing that we have yet to tap. Our persistent conceptual reality shrouds this presence and denies us the power of our spiritual birthright.

Medicine Buddha is a Deity who represents all of the healing powers of all of the great Buddhas and Bodhisattvas (these are not “Buddhist” religious Beings, as they are beyond religious philosophies) of the Three Times (past, present, and future), and of the ten directions throughout the entire Universe.

Calling on Medicine Buddha opens doorways to powerful forces that heal consciousness with Wisdom and Compassion. This happens with Reiki Empowerments and also with Medicine Buddha Empowerments from Buddhist Lamas when we are aligned with this brilliant force. We may visualise Medicine Buddha as living within our hearts and indeed within every cell of our bodies. Millions of Medicine Buddhas can make up our entire physical form, which we can also visualise in its entirety as the Medicine Buddha, Himself. This is Buddhist Tantra.

The deep transparent indigo blue colour associated with the Medicine Buddha represents the non-dual mind, which opens us to all possibilities of healing, as it diminishes our conceptual nonsense.

There is a Buddhist sutra, a story about Medicine Buddha and his sacred Vows. He is said to have made twelve promises to all who sincerely call for his help and guidance. I never perform a Reiki healing session or conduct a Reiki Course or dispense flower essences, without reciting His invocation mantra and visualising His presence.

Each of us is not alone in the Universe. And we are also one with the universe, as was evident at the Big Bang: We have become a small part of this cosmos that was once a singular thought.

Yes, these Deities are real, are Consciousness, are Compassion. And yes, They are images of our own Mind. Allowing ourselves to BE these Deities opens us to the power of the cosmos, itself…. Remember that, next time you are frazzled in a supermarket! You are Medicine Buddha incarnate! … But it’s still a good idea to stay off the sugar!
