The syllabus has been designed for the general public as well as the professional astrologer, and is especially (but not exclusively) suited to individuals presently working in, or aspiring towards, any of the healing or counselling professions—these are today's Bodhisattvas. In fact, anyone, regardless of creed, who sincerely and actively cares about relieving the suffering of others, may be considered to be on a bodhisattva path.

The Yogacara Professional Astrology Course will therefore be equally beneficial to:

• anyone on a self-healing or awareness path
• those interested in life-purpose direction and the dissolution of insidious self-sabotage patterns
• parents and guardians seeking greater clarity in assisting those in their care.
• professional astrologers, counsellors, and other therapists, wishing to delve more deeply into the origins of the suffering of their clients, and to develop an even greater capacity to assist the client back to wholeness and personal usefulness in the world

How the Study of Astrology Can Enhance Your Life

Quite apart from the practical application of the Yogacara Professional Astrology Course, which can train any reasonably intelligent person in the art of astrological consulting, this is also a personal development course that is focused on positive transformation without the need to dwell on one's negative traits, which are, themselves, as impermanent as clouds in the vast heavens. ANY energetic frequency has an alternative positive expression in the human psyche. That's the one to focus on!

Astrology provides a remarkable and easy access to the psychological motivations of one's mind at all levels of consciousness. The birth chart may reveal psychological processes that can normally take months or even years to unearth in normal Western therapy situations. Astrology is therefore a marvellous complement to the work of any healer or therapist wanting to delve more deeply into the initial causes of his or her clients' emotional or physical suffering. And when linked to Buddhist philosophy and psychology, astrology opens a pathway for personal healing at every level.

Another personal benefit from the study of astrology at this level is the generation of authentic tolerance we may achieve for the differences in all other individuals we encounter, leading to an appreciation of the uniqueness in their varieties of expressions, behaviours, and values, to be recognised as useful gifts appropriate for the roles they are here to develop in this incarnation. Once we can appreciate the source of the mind-set of individuals so different from ourselves, we can abandon our judgemental attitudes towards them. This opens the way to genuine compassion.

To assist the process of personal development through what is being taught in this course, each participant will receive a computer-calculated copy of his or her birth chart at the beginning of the first class; and also a downloadable plain text file of over 11,200 personal asteroid positions, later in the course. The information discussed will therefore be available for personal scrutiny and individual relevance.

The professional astrologer will find a fresh approach and innovative techniques that re-evaluate this ancient science, adding new tools to their own expertise. While on a personal level, for all participants, many insights and benefits can result from working with one's own astrology chart throughout the course, especially when applying the Buddhist understanding of Mind, as has been evidenced from my years of teaching comprehensive astrology courses in both Sydney and Canberra, since 1991.

Of course, there is no obligation for any student to reveal any part of his or her birth chart to the group. However, on various occasions, there will be time for the sharing of our experiences of pertinent astrological configurations, as desired. This can be both a light-hearted way of gaining more knowledge, and an opportunity for group bonding and harmony.

The eight principle types of consciousness through which we all operate, as elaborated through the Yogacara teachings of Buddhism, are highlighted in this course via their astrological counterparts. It is imperative to discern the level of mind at which an issue is causing dysfunction, as not all treatments (whether allopathic, traditional, or alternative) will be effective in every case. Some treatments may be highly effective at one level of consciousness, but entirely unsatisfactory at another. Astrological diagnosis is an unsurpassed tool for directing the therapist to the root cause of any problem, regardless of whether the symptoms are presenting as physical, emotional, or mental dysfunction.

Of course, there is yet one other great advantage to being able to comprehend the mysteries of the heavens. To any astrologer worth his or her salt, this new economic era in which we find ourselves was entirely predictable. Many of us were heralding an approaching Age of Constraint, but of course, were not appreciated by a skeptical public. This precognition is not due to any magical forces, but simply to the sadly predictable responses of the human condition. When Pluto changes signs, so do our survival tactics! (See more on this in my article, Cult Or Consciousness: A Global Ultimatum, published by Insight Magazine, April 2008; and written in August 2007). Also, both myself and Dr Neil Hair (Numerologist/Astrologer) had predicted this change during our combined TV interviews with Robyn Walker in Conversations With Robyn in June 2006.

... Having one's finger on the pulse (of both global and personal astrological transits) enables one to alter the tides and direction of one's own energy to both accommodate and take advantage of the new frequencies. The Yogacara Professional Astrology Course will train you in this art, and much more.

Having successfully conducted my unique 2-year 'Spiritual Astrology' courses throughout Sydney for seven years from 1991, I have had a great deal of experience in teaching astrology at this level, often running four identical courses concurrently (each consisting of 40 weekly classes) in various locations, followed by a further year of monthly Masters' workshops; and then teaching a necessarily condensed version in Canberra in 2003 and 2004. (Since 1998, I have been focused primarily on writing my first comprehensive book, Astrology and the Seventh Veil: The Science of Compassion—Liberating Your Bodhisattva Mind, based on my innovations that grew from my exposure to fabulous clients and students. Though, two years of that time were devoted to designing 90 comprehensive Flower Essence Formulas to complement my work.)

The detailed information offered throughout the new Yogacara Professional Astrology Course is developed in spirals rather than in linear form, for a gradually deeper comprehension and appreciation of the concepts involved. Also, the ambience throughout the course will be light and humorous, as is my preferred style of teaching, rather than dry and excessively academic. Though, I guarantee that a great deal of information will be covered.

Thankfully, no mathematical skills are required for this course, as computer technology allows the astrologer to access all of the required complex Astronomical calculations in a matter of seconds, including that of many thousands of asteroids. Suitable software programs for astrological work will also be discussed and demonstrated as an optional extra class. (See the Resource Links page for access to the recommended program sites.)

Each in-house module will be recorded on audio-quality CDs so that any missed classes may be available for borrowing (but not copying!) in this format (though no responsibility can be taken for any failures with this technology at any time). It is advisable, though, to make the effort to be present for each in-house class, as a great deal of subtle non-verbal communication is also involved, as well as whiteboard demonstrations, etc, of themes and ideas.

• It is to be expected that participants will value the exclusive research data that will be delivered throughout the course, and will respect my copyright of the material.
• Therefore, no other recording devices are to be brought to the classes. Printed study booklets will be given to accompany every module.

The Yogacara Professional Astrology Course has been designed to be as flexible as required, comprising a basic consecutive series of a minimum 8 modules (or expanded to 9 or 10, as desired). Each module consists of 12 hours of tuition, totalling 96 hours over eight complete modules (or 120 hours for 10 modules).

This course is also available as PRIVATE TUITION, with, of course, a different fee structure and a more flexible course structure.

The structure of each module may be designed as:

• a 2-day Weekend Seminar (scheduled at monthly intervals);
• or two 1-day seminars, a fortnight or month apart;
• or (possibly for Sydney, Australia) four weekly 3-hour classes, or three weekly 4-hour classes. (These will necessarily require alterations to the syllabus structure to allow coverage of entire sub-topics)
• Also (possibly for Sydney, Australia) each single module covered in two consecutive 6-hour Saturdays, with a 4-week break before the next module begins

All module structures, above, cover 12 hours of tuition, plus extra time added for meal breaks and tea.

For long-distance Australian travel or for other countries, 4-day Intensives are also available, and cover 2 modules of 24 hours' tuition (generally Friday to Monday, unless otherwise requested). I will be able to make four visits at regular intervals throughout the year to cover the entire 84-hour curriculum (via 3 Intensives plus one final Weekend Seminar).

8-day Intensives covering 4 modules (preferably Friday to Monday, then Thursday to Sun, providing a 2-day break after 4 days), are also possible for those with present astrological skills, and are especially suitable for destinations outside Australia. The remaining 3 modules can then be covered 2 to 3 months later, to suit, over 6 days (Friday to Sunday, then the following Friday to Sunday). (Time for personal astrology readings for some of the participants can be organised for the days between, if requested.)

Correspondence courses are not available at this time, especially as so much of the material covered is the result of new research. It is therefore more beneficial for me to be personally available to the students to ensure the material is being assimilated appropriately. Also, as this is new work, the 'group dynamic' actually advances the consciousness of all participants, which is a quantum-field effect, making the information more accessible. (Personal classes, therefore, also have an advantage over reading books.) ... This is not to say Correspondence courses will not be available at a future time. Please contact me with your request.

PLEASE NOTE: It is also possible for the Yogacara Professional Astrology Courses to be tailor-made for the requirements of a particular group of students. While the emphasis is always of a Buddhist philosophical nature, the precise Buddhist references and details can be watered down or made more explicit to suit. For example, the spiritual references to Greek and Roman mythology, including the Twelve Trials of Hercules (as influenced by the original 1913 Curtis astrological interpretations), may also be employed for a broader context.

The SECOND YEAR of modules continues the First Year's themes with extra techniques, and methods for working with files containing thousands of asteroids for greater detail as the 'body text' of the birth chart. Multitudes of asteroids will be explored in category themes. Plus further practise with 'Composite & Synastry' Relationship charts, also including pertinent asteroids.

A 2-DAY WORKSHOP on Flower Essence Therapy will be held during the latter part of the 1st year course. The 1st day will be open to the general public, and will describe this therapy in depth; while the 2nd day will be restricted to my current and past astrology course students, as this will focus on the complementary use of flower essences with the astrological diagnosis of 'mind' as taught in the Yogacara Professional Astrology Course.

Every science has its own unique language and set of symbols. The language of astrology necessarily utilises many terms and glyphs (symbols) from Astronomical sources. It can be advantageous (though not vital) to have a head-start with the course by practising and memorising the glyphs used in the science of astrology.

For those approaching the study of astrology for the first time, I have prepared a Preliminary Study Sheet downloadable from this site, which comprises individual Tables of the glyphs for planets (as well as the eight Transneptunian 'Points'), Zodiac Signs, abstract Sensitive Points, and the particular geometrical Aspects used in my system of astrology.

Familiarity with the symbols used in the language of astrology will assist a speedier comprehension of the dynamics involved.

The most useful glyphs to memorise initially are those of the well-known planets of the solar system and the Zodiac Signs (these are in the 1st two Tables). Also, it will be helpful to have memorised, or at least to be familiar with, the Aspect glyphs, as these will be introduced during the 1st module.

The abstract Sensitive Points (Moon's Nodes, Part of Fortune, and the Vertex axis) will not be studied until Module 4; and the Transneptunians will not be studied until Module 6.

Do not be overwhelmed by this task

Make steady progress in identifying one glyph at a time. The associations of the planets to their Resonant Zodiac Signs are included in Table 1 for those who wish to progress a little further. However, the recognition of the glyphs is more than sufficient for beginning the course.

'Bodhisattva' is a Sanskrit term, meaning 'courageous awakened being'. This is one who is intent on developing the highest virtues and reaching enlightenment so as to be of the greatest benefit to all sentient beings, dedicating his/her life (and all future lives) to liberating others from suffering and delusion. This is the ultimate path of Compassion and Wisdom, which itself actually produces enlightenment.
